If you’re like everyone else, you’ve probably had to find a new balance between your home and work life. This can be especially hard if you’re also working from home. If you don’t have a space set up specifically for working, the lines between these two areas of your life can easily become blurred. This leaves you frustrated, unproductive, and ripping your hair out. Creating the perfect home office doesn’t have to be as complicated as it may seem. Here are some Karr Bick approved tips, tricks, and essentials to get your work space up and running.

Organization is Key
We all know the headache caused by a desk with piles of paperwork spread across it. As the saying goings, a clean desk makes for a clear mind. This isn’t possible without proper organization though! Utilize shelving, built-in storage, or add additional cabinets to the room. Keep organization in the front of your mind when planning out your space.

Make Every Square Inch Count
Unless you have an extra room that you can dedicate as an office, a little more creativity will be required. Search all the nooks and crannies within your home to find the perfect place. This may be within the kitchen, in the basement, or a corner elsewhere in the house. If you need something a little more impromptu, an unused closet or designing it to fit under your staircase can work too. It’s all about figuring out what will work best for you in your space.

Identify What You Need
Naturally, this should be your first step in any remodel process. Think about what you need out of the space, what will help you function best, and anything else that will make your life easier. Use the list you make as your starting place for remodel plans.

Let There Be Light
Lighting is one of the major ways you can set the tone and mood of a space. When it comes to your office, make sure that you have proper lighting. Of course, natural lighting is ideal. In fact, the more the merrier! This isn’t always possible though, so make sure to have additional lighting in your space. This can mean lamps or something built in.

Don’t Forget About Your Personality
Unlike your cubicle at work, you’re allowed full freedom to customize the space as you please. Let your personality shine through, and we can guarantee that you’ll be happier in your space. Whether this is seen in your color scheme, use of wallpaper, accent pieces, or overall mood, make the space your own. If it doesn’t make you truly happy, your design journey isn’t done!
