Famously Sought-After Design By Grounded Professionals

In a world more and more focused on personal divides, sometimes it’s something as domestic as home design to remind us that we all have more in common than we think. Sometimes the very idea that we are each unique, and want that uniqueness reflected in our spaces, is the common thread that binds us together.

So it’s not really surprising then, that the resource you and I use for design inspiration and professionals would be the same tool used by famous Hollywood actor, Jenna Fischer. When St. Louis native, Fischer, wanted to surprise her sister with a complete living space renovation, she turned to Houzz.com and local expert, Jenny Rausch, Designer/Owner of Karr Bick Kitchens and Bath, to make her unique renovation dreams come true.

Fischer’s sister, Emily, and her family live in a St. Louis home that originally belonged to their grandparents. Chock full of wonderful family memories, the home was a diamond in the rough with its cramped, closed-off floorplan and outdated kitchen.

Once Jenna brought Jenny from Karr Bick on board, the two were able to communicate design ideas and vision cross country using the tools on Houzz.com.

Jenna wanted a polished but not formal look for her sister, Emily. Comfort was key. Even the floor needed to be a comfortable spot to hang out. And family function was a top priority as Emily’s current space was overflowing with over-scale furniture and children’s toys, supplies and artwork.

By knocking down a few walls and opening up a stair case, Jenny was able to create an open kitchen design as well as add updated kitchen cabinets, countertops and a brand new kitchen island.

The new, functional open floor plan was just the beginning. Jenny redesigned the entire family room/dining room space with new windows, lighting, flooring, fireplace mantle and hearth.

An existing bookshelf was repurposed with help from Jenna and Emily’s dad. A new rug was brought in to address that polished but informal comfort that Jenna wanted for her sister. Color was brought in with pillows, curtains and dining table chairs, items that are easier to switch out later if color preferences should ever change. Jenny and Jenna sent Houzz ideabook photos back and forth and used the site’s sketch feature to find the perfect sofa for Emily and her family.

Always delivering never ordinary spaces, Jenny created special moments throughout. A perfect home was found in the remodeled kitchen for a small chef statue that had belonged to Jenna and Emily’s grandparents. Just the right amount of wallpaper was added to set off the new bookcase as a feature. Throughout, storage was added so that precious toys and art supplies can now be tucked away. And for the adults, charging stations were installed behind cabinet doors so the electronics can be out of sight and out of mind when not in use. An updated front door was chosen to give a fresh welcome to the new space. Every inch was planned for comfort and function with the end result offering the family beautiful design and stress-free living.

Take a look at what it’s like to work with Jenny and her Karr Bick team. We’re confident you’ll want the next nothing ordinary transformation to be in your home.
