Dear Consumer, What Do You Want From Me?
Recently, I’ve been up late at night. Thinking. About you, the consumer. What can a small business like mine do to set themselves apart? How do we tell you, show you, that we are unique or different? How do we communicate to you that we are #nothingordinary? I can honestly say that some days it feels like an almost impossible feat. Right now, in fact, I can imagine it to be a little like hiking the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) barefoot with no supplies, all 2,650 miles of it.
Everyone is competing for your attention. Companies like Google and Facebook have entire armies of people dedicated to the acquisition of your attention. Entrepreneurs like me, well, we have ourselves.
So here I sit, on a Tuesday night, kids tucked into bed, a full day of work complete and my job (well my second job) is to figure out what I can do for you. What can I do to be relevant and helpful? What can I do to get you to keep coming back? If I think about why you seek us out, what you need from us, the answer is easy…information. Lots and lots of information. We have to be your trusted resource for all things related to the kitchen and bath industry.
Much of what you ask for is process related.
- Where do I start?
- What do I need to know before I begin?
- Who do I talk to first?
- What can I expect?
- How long will it take?
- How much will it cost?
It’s not easy to package all of that into something entertaining. Information is dry. I am not dry; we at Karr Bick are not dry. We are smart, funny, sarcastic and very direct and honest.
If there is anything I have learned from you over the years, it’s that you want to be told exactly what to expect in the most straightforward way. And, I agree, that’s what you deserve. You prefer for me to tell you things will get dirty, because, they will get dirty. Telling you the opposite because someone thinks it’s what you want to hear is pointless. You expect me to tell you that you might cry, and I do. I do because it happens, and if you don’t cry, then you are pleasantly surprised.
Building your dream space can be life disrupting. You might be living in one small corner of your house with 4 kids, and 3 animals while everything else is under construction….and at some point, that would make anyone cry.
So what is the point of my story? I suppose it is me telling you the way we operate at Karr Bick. I was staring at the computer wondering “how do I introduce this series of videos and downloads?” The easiest path to hike seemed to be the most direct. We have this website full of information because that is what you want and at Karr Bick, we want to be there for you. I hope you take the time to explore all the information we have put together for you. It was not done in haste or without care.
Instead of spending hours in a room brainstorming about how to take your attention away from something else, we spent hours in a room trying to develop the most useful tools in the industry for your next project.
Our world is full of a lot of noise that often isn’t backed up with the type of service and attention you deserve. We hope you’ll notice us, over here, with our quiet confidence simply asking “Hello!, what can we do for you?” Because we can do #nothingordinary things giving you spaces beyond your wildest dreams. And we’re not noisy or full of bravado. We’re here for you. To serve. To be honest and hardworking. To give you the quality process and product you want and deserve.
