The story of this cottage is truly special. Tucked away in a valley that is home to a community of people who have grown up with each other generationally. It’s a place that has no lack of love and is even where you can find Owner Jenny’s thinking road. Since the community is rooted in its rich history, the homeowner wanted to stay true to the valley’s spirit, but also make it a functional space that fit the family’s personality. In the beginning, the historic cottage had one main room, a porch, and was built on the original tent platform. With uneven floors, rotting boards, and water damaged walls, there was quite a bit of rehab work to do. To see more before pictures, head over to our before & after portfolio. To make the space feel more open and airy, Jenny opened up the kitchen to what was once the main room. This allows for optimal gathering space for the father and sons. To make the space really come alive, pieces of the old and new are found throughout. The trunk, which is being used as a coffee table, is original to the cottage and even has handwritten notes […]

Read MoreThere’s nothing better than a classic home renovation. For this local family, the kitchen is their cornerstone. After a long day, everyone gathers to create and enjoy a meal together. In order to help reflect the special meaning they felt in this room, the family decided that a remodel was needed. To ensure enough space to come together, Owner Jenny added an island that is slightly taller than normal. All the family members were blessed with height, so this customization is perfect. The island also needed to be multifunctional as the kitchen is the place they cook, eat, do projects and wrap presents. The light fixture makes the room feel polished and delicate. Classic marble countertops add a sense of elegance and are paired perfectly with brass accents. Deep navy cabinetry contrasts against the crisp white in the marble, while bringing a calming effect. The range hood, featuring a refined pattern, is made of printed marble. This special detail makes the space feel unique and personalized. It’s truly a #NothingOrdinary element. With several windows, the kitchen feels open and flows cohesively with the surrounding rooms. Beside the oven, you can find a window seat. It was incorporated to connect the […]

Read MoreAs you read in our last blog, we’ve had the honor to welcome designer Ashley Willman Obradovits to our team! Her story, which you can hear more about on our YouTube channel, is truly #NothingOrdinary. One of her proudest design moments was the completion of her daughter’s nursery. After moving into their Cape Cod style house, Ashley and her husband found out they were going to welcome their first child. The second floor had been an attic space, but after finding out she was expecting a girl, Ashley wanted nothing more than to start designing. “I couldn’t wait,” she said. When seeking for inspiration, Ashley had fallen in love with Michelle Morin’s watercolor. She knew she wanted it to be her starting place and her guide throughout the design process. “Not only was it perfect for the nursery, it was also the perfect thing for her to grow into.” Much like her mother, Sonja Willman, Ashley has a deep love for mixing the old with the new. Within this space, she knew she wanted to include precious family heirlooms that were dear to her heart. The nightstand came from the home she grew up in. There’s a bunny needlepoint piece, […]
Read MoreWith a long to-do list of projects around the house, the homeowners became overwhelmed and wanted to throw in the towel and move. After much convincing by their daughters, they decided on a complete remodel instead and called Karr Bick to help rescue them. When approaching Designer Wendy, the homeowners had clear insight on what they wanted. With Scandinavian family roots, the goal was to blend functionality and simplicity with natural beauty. Originally, the kitchen was dark and featured several hues of beige. After it’s transformation, this space feels like a breath of fresh air. The moonstone color blocked cabinets add a modern flair. The zellige backsplash, which wraps around the whole kitchen, provide interest and is complimented by dark features. Blonde wood shelving brings warmth to the kitchen but still rings true of the color theme. Lastly, inspired by the nature seen through the windows, an organic light fixture hangs above the breakfast table. Through these different design dynamics, the space has evolved to fit the feel and function the homeowners desired. The fireplace, which served as the centerpiece of their living room, was completely outdated. The goal was to make the fireplace seem like it was meant to […]

Read MoreThere’s almost nothing as satisfying as an amazing transformation. Whether the Before features awkward cabinetry, poor lighting, lack of storage, or all of the above, the After is always pleasing to the eye. Naturally, all spaces have their own unique story. We’ve been lucky enough to help families finetune their story and create a space that shares their happily ever after. Below, you’ll find some of our favorite transformation stories. Before its stunning transformation, this kitchen felt awkwardly cut off and dated. Even with optimal natural light, the room still felt gloomy. With wallpaper featuring ivy vines, dark wood cabinetry, and countertop splitting the space in half, this space wasn’t making the homeowners happy. That is, of course, until it underwent its own facelift. Now when you enter the kitchen, you’re happily welcomed by a polished and sophisticated space. When your laundry room is dark and stuffy, laundry is a chore. Once it underwent its transformation, doing laundry in this space became a peaceful activity. With beige walls and tiled floor, the room just felt blah. After its remodel, the space had a charming cottage feel. Natural lighting and light cabinetry brightened the room up, while also bringing a fresh […]
