The goal for this junior suite bath was simple: make it feel as though it could have always belonged in this old, charming home.

The story begins underfoot with a checkerboard floor composed of three different natural stones, giving a familiar pattern more depth, age and variation. Classic cream wall tile is edged in oxblood pencil and liner tile, a detail that carries into the shower where deep burgundy tile is mixed with natural stone. The combination is rich, warm and unexpectedly cozy.

A furniture-like wood vanity, simple wall and trim details, unlacquered brass and antique artwork keep the room from feeling overly designed or too new. Every material has a little character, and nothing is too perfect.

The result feels collected rather than decorated. A new bathroom that looks like it may have been part of the house all along.
