Before the master bath remodel, the space wasn’t satisfying the homeowner. The walls were covered in patterned blue wallpaper and beige tile. There was a large tub taking up most of the space and a long vanity down most of the wall. Since the bathroom style was far from what the homeowner liked, it was time for a new design journey. The biggest change was made to the entryway. Rather than walking right into the shower, you now get a stunning view of the tub. With a black glossy finish and brass accents, this bathtub speaks for itself. Geometric tile floor is seen throughout, which adds another design element to make the space dynamic. The beautiful deep green seen in the shower’s marble is reflected in the wainscot paneling. One of Owner Jenny’s favorite details is the patterned wallpaper. “It brings warmth into the black and white space,” Jenny said. “It takes someone who does this all the time, who sees these bathrooms and all the parts and pieces put together to help you make some of these bolder decisions.” The laundry room was moved to where a previous closet was. Not only did this allow for more space overall, […]
Read MoreFor this local family, the kitchen is their cornerstone. After a long day, everyone gathers to create and enjoy a meal together. In order to help reflect the special meaning they felt in this room, the family decided that a remodel was needed. To ensure enough space to come together, Owner Jenny added an island that is 2” taller than normal. The island needed to be multifunction as the kitchen is the place they cook, eat, do projects and wrap presents. The light fixture makes the room feel polished and delicate. Classic marble countertops add a sense of elegance and are paired perfectly with brass accents. Deep navy cabinetry contrasts against the crisp white in the marble, while bringing a calming effect. The range hood, featuring a refined pattern, is made of printed marble. This special detail makes the space feel unique and personalized. With several windows, the kitchen feels open and flows cohesively with the surrounding rooms. Beside the oven, you can find a window seat. It was incorporated to connect the kitchen workspace without changing the size of the original window. Each evening, the family’s twin girls sit here to watch their mom cook dinner. Details like this […]
Read MoreWith a long to-do list of projects around the house, the homeowners became overwhelmed and wanted to throw in the towel and move. After much convincing by their daughters, they decided on a complete remodel instead and called Karr Bick to help rescue them. When approaching Designer Wendy, the homeowners had clear insight on what they wanted. With Scandinavian family roots, the goal was to blend functionality and simplicity with natural beauty. Originally, the kitchen was dark and featured several hues of beige. After it’s transformation, this space feels like a breath of fresh air. The moonstone color blocked cabinets add a modern flair. The zellige backsplash, which wraps around the whole kitchen, provides interest and is complimented by dark features. Open wood shelving brings warmth to the kitchen but still rings true of the color theme. The fireplace, which served as the centerpiece of their living room, was completely outdated. The goal was to make the fireplace seem like it was meant to be. With a custom build, the fireplace now reflects simple and functional modernization. Accented blonde wood brings warmth to the space, while also connecting it to the surrounding rooms. In order to open up the space, […]
Read MoreThough serving a purpose when originally built, a local family didn’t feel the once carriage house served them fully. With a large family and a passion for entertaining, the clients wanted to reconstruct the space into a pool house. The challenge was to meet all of their needs while also staying true to the functionality of the space. With spaces to eat, gather, and enjoy, the family’s interpretation of a pool house became #NothingOrdinary. The retractable doors and bar window open up the space completely to the backyard. The beautiful blue cabinetry not only brightens up the kitchenette, but it also reflects the hues found in the pool. Black paneling helps the space feel more defined and adds an element of contrast. Both the bathroom and changing room have patterned tile to create a consistent flow. Unlike the changing room, the bathroom features a white penny tiled wall along with a beautiful cottage sink. With all of these details, the pool house transformed into something extremely special. Beautifully designed by Wendy. Read MoreA Historic home remodel with a growing family in mind… This historic home is the ultimate renovation. With beautifully designed spaces everywhere you turn, it’s hard for your eye to settle on just one detail. The open kitchen is perfect for gatherings and masterpieces that the kids wipe up. Details such as the distressed cabinetry, the ripple design wrapped around the island, and the hanging chandelier make the space #NothingOrdinary. Staying true to the history of the home, you can find many different elements that ring true to the home’s story. The dark wood found throughout the home reflects the character and ageless beauty of the space. Antique pieces featured around every corner of the house are not only beautifully displayed, but they aid in highlighting the design details. The entryway, which is the ultimate testament to the incredible craftsmen work at Karr Bick, welcomes visitors with a breathtaking view. Read MoreHow do you properly describe a project that lived inside a craftsman’s head for the past 20 years? Now it lives outside for everyone to see. A bar designed and built by the dreamer. This is not your typical basement bar. It’s nestled into the front porch, stealing its long length from a little more than half of the old screened in area. There are original glass French doors that lead directly to the formal dining room. Light comes from all sides, yet the mood is dark. The beam ceiling was created from a dying white oak that stood in the front yard for 180 years, long before the historic home was built. Leaded glass gothic arches in the doors and backlit stained glass in the ceiling speak historically. Churches erected hundreds of years ago inspired the intricate details. The brass sconces are very old and the drop down TV is very new. The counter top, bent sheets of brass, crafted by the artist himself is continually polished to a bright shine. Even the bar stools took months to find and were then modified to perfectly fit the vision. The floor is marble, heated to stave off the cold from […]
