The soft, warm hues coming from the beautiful wood in this kitchen find balance with sleek black and white lines. Beautiful wood grain draws the eye in this large and bright light-filled space, while the sleek white perimeter cabinetry and black accents keep everything looking crisp. Grey glass subway tiles serve as the backdrop for the distinctive quartz range backsplash design, coupled with the dramatic black hood with stainless straps – which is accentuated by a dark stained wood shiplap ceiling. The ceiling design was tricky to execute as Rebekah had to incorporate a column to support the load of the house, yet this column sat in a peculiar area of the kitchen which was also on the edge of the sitting room. After much problem-solving we tied in the sitting area ceiling beam design into the column. All the shiplap installation helped to mask the strange ceiling situation, as well as the column conundrum. Captivating Ralph Lauren and Restoration Hardware lighting fixtures in matte black iron and metal finishes top off the look with a refined, unexpected and also equestrian finish. The bold island pendants are extra wide, offering a strong statement upon entering the kitchen. The large breakfast room chandelier echoes the black metal with equestrian straps and chains, yet also offers dimension with the textile shade. The fixture anchors the banquette. The round geometric designed pendant in the sitting area, adjoined to the kitchen is unexpectedly perfect. Three very different lighting fixture designs that set the tone for the high-end, well appointed house. This is a true chef’s kitchen, equipped with top-of-the-line Sub Zero Wolf appliances. It was tricky fitting in so many large appliances while making sure the space felt balanced. The extra thick counters add stability and balance for the overall feel. Some of the most memorable kitchens employ a simple palette of black and white to striking effect and this is the case for this kitchen. It’s all about mixing bold motifs, shapes, and finishes and warming them with wood finishes.
