With a long to-do list of projects around the house, the homeowners became overwhelmed and wanted to throw in the towel and move. After much convincing by their daughters, they decided on a complete remodel instead and called Karr Bick to help rescue them. When approaching Designer Wendy, the homeowners had clear insight on what they wanted. With Scandinavian family roots, the goal was to blend functionality and simplicity with natural beauty. Originally, the kitchen was dark and featured several hues of beige. After it’s transformation, this space feels like a breath of fresh air. The moonstone color blocked cabinets add a modern flair. The zellige backsplash, which wraps around the whole kitchen, provides interest and is complimented by dark features. Open wood shelving brings warmth to the kitchen but still rings true of the color theme. The fireplace, which served as the centerpiece of their living room, was completely outdated. Originally, this space was split into two. On one side, you’d find a mirrored wall coupled with a bathtub that jetted out into the open. The other side had dark vanities that faced each other. To take full advantage of all the space, the transformation called for a readjustment of the amenities. By rearranging the bathroom, every square inch was used to its fullest capacity. The beautiful blue and marble brings a sophisticated look. The tiled shower gives off a clean and crisp look with gold fixtures. This gold is carried throughout the space, which gives it an element of warmth. In the beginning, this wasn’t a bathroom that one would want to spend too long in. Now though, there is a separate vanity made especially for spending time there. The printed cushion seat, optimal natural light, and mirrors are perfect for getting ready for a night out. When asked to collaborate on a new project, the designers at Karr Bick help to create a space that the homeowners feel reflects and represents them. While these space’s original form were functionally sound, the homeowners didn’t get that sense of true representation. After their transformation, it felt like the missing piece to the puzzle had finally been found. Now, these spaces are polished and sophisticated. In the kitchen, you’ll find semi-distressed gray cabinetry, which helps keep the space feeling fresh. Marble countertops and a tiled backsplash that wraps around half of the kitchen pull out the cooling hues found in the cabinets. In contrast to all of this, the island showcases dark wood. This addition aids in the moodiness of the space. Since there is a seamless flow between the kitchen and surrounding rooms, this space feels meant to be. This bathroom is the ultimate relaxation station. The tub, which could make anyone feel like royalty, sits just in front of the windows. The same color theme seen in the kitchen carries into the bathroom, which brings the same sophisticated feeling. Everything about this space speaks to the homeowners classic style. Since the homeowner always looked forward to a bubble bath in the evening, the bathtub was made one of the highlights of the room. By giving the tub its own special place, it makes the room feel like a professional at-home spa. The homeowners traditional style is seen in the molding found on the wall, the color scheme, and the vanity hardware. The built in shelves add extra storage space while still maintaining the seamless flow of the space. In addition to the tub, there’s also a large walk-in shower. Before it’s makeover, this kitchen was filled with slightly yellow tinted wood. From the ceiling to the floor, you were greeted with a single color. The green countertops attempted to break up this effect but was unsuccessful in its mission. Everything felt very dated. As you can see, things have changed for the better. Now, the kitchen is sleek, elegant, and polished. The white cabinetry contrasts perfectly against the dark wood floor. A blue island ties everything together while also presenting a calming feeling. Though the backsplash tiling sticks to the brighter color scheme, it also increases depth in the space. Also adding significantly to the kitchen is the perfectly paired range hood and chandelier. These two not only work perfectly with each other, but also tie in the contrasting elements of the room. Lastly, the once step-down closet transformed into a stunning mudroom. While it does enhance the aesthetics of the room, it also aids in storage and welcoming visitors back. Thoughtfully designed by Wendy.
