You may be one of the many individuals that works from home all the time, but are in need of an updated office space. Or maybe you have been thrust into working from home currently, and are feeling a little bit like we are. First and foremost, we feel very lucky that although we may not be able to be in the office, we still have the ability to work. But working from home provides a new set of challenges that we do not have in the office. As all of us make do with the new “norm” we look around and dream about what kind of work space would be ideal. When we asked Designer Janelle to talk about her dream office, it led her to reflect on a specific home remodel project that included a wonderful home office. Here is what she had to say, while working from her current “home office,” and tackling caring for baby Hazel at the same time. The Goal: When beginning this extensive home remodel project there were many goals we needed to achieve for our clients. First of all, the plan included a much larger butler’s pantry with counter space for when […]

Read More“Just Do What You Do…” – Homeowner Julie Portman A designer’s dream is when a client trusts their vision. Trust is believing the designer and jumping on board with their vision and advice. Especially when that vision involves happy color everywhere! This project is for a beautiful century-old Tudor home that is abundant in natural charm and graceful architecture. Such a fun palette to work with. As is usually the case with old homes, the bathrooms are outdated and need some 21st century Karr Bick talent and love. The attic bathroom is for a young girl who is passionate about life and dance. She is excited for her charming little bathroom to be expanded and made cheerful with pink touches; pink cabinetry and pink penny dot tile on the wall behind the free-standing tub (which is everyone’s bathroom dream). All sitting cheerfully on grayish taupey flower porcelain tiles. The pink cabinetry will extend to a framed wainscot mirror that frames 3 precious wall sconces that hearken to historic industrial architectural days. It’s the bathroom every young girl wishes they had in their life. The boy’s bathroom is for a young, energetic, hockey loving boy and will also […]
Read MoreJoin us while Janelle share’s her nursery journey for sweet baby Hazel Hazel’s nursery, 9 months or rather 8 years in the making. For as much as we had planned to have a baby I hadn’t actually put a lot of thought into the nursery until we got pregnant. Designing her nursery ended up being a welcome distraction for our anxious hearts. Our guestroom was the only room in the house that we hadn’t touched. The walls were still the same white as they were when we moved in 10 years ago and the carpet was the same stained carpet. Initially we had planned on just painting the walls, ripping up the carpet and possibly doing a wainscot to change it into the nursery. However, while sitting on the bed talking about the space we were inspired by the shutters we had been storing. After leaning in the corner of the guest room for over a year we decided they would be perfect for the closet doors. With the shutters being our inspiration, we knew we wanted the space to feel whimsical and light and to be a space that could grow with her. The next step was figuring out […]

During this time of “alternative learning” and longs days all home together, we don’t want our kiddos to leave their creative playfulness for schedules and school work. When Jenny threw some graph paper at her kids yesterday as a last ditch effort to give them something to do and to be able to get some work done herself, she was shocked at the fun they had. Bonus…she was able to quite a bit done herself:) Click here to download “Design Your Dream Room”. Post on our Facebook Page or Instagram so we can see what your little ones came up with! Read MoreTile is a design element that can completely transform a space. It can make a room look classic or modern, like a farmhouse, or city loft. But with thousands of tile choices, what is up and coming, and how do you choose? We work with dozens of clients, and the one thing that we want to be real about with them is that it is OK to take some risks. There are lots of trends happening in design, but they are always changing. Trust your designer. They are there to push you outside of your comfort zone. If you choose a talented and respected design team, like Karr Bick, you will be thrilled with the results. Now let’s get started. While tile is one of the most impactful features in overall design, that’s not new. But, it used to be that the tile choices were much simpler. The hard thing about tile is that once it’s there, you’re going to have to live with it for a while. Furthermore, no one wants to rip out an entire floor or wall, and more importantly spend a lot of extra money if they make the wrong choice, so do your research. Tile […]
